Let it be known to all our new members that there will be no obscene language or chat allowed in our guild chat.  This include inuendos referring to body parts or processes, colorful names, pet names, and sexual actions.  Keep it private.

We have several children in our guild and guild chat needs to remain clean.  Totally clean.  Foul language and words that offend will not be tolerated.  Persons who cannot control their language or behavior will be removed from the guild.

Hello Varissul,

If I may make a suggestion, can you post a list of rules that guildmembers are expected to follow? I don't mean to sound "smart-alecky", but there are some common guidelines that I was unaware of like the language / content policy for /g.

I don't think I've said anything patently offensive in /g, but it would be good if we had a list of "general practices" so there isn't any confusion in the future. It will also help avoid drama, I think, if you can just say "you broke X rule" and deal with it.

I know for myself that there's a lot of "figuring out" to do in a new group, and such a list would be great to have.

Thanks,
Cagnazzo

There are very few rules governing guildchat.

- Don't be rash. If you're about to say something while angry it's best you sit on your hands or you'll regret it later.

- You need to be open-minded. We accept people of all colors, races, religions, sexual preferences (the wilder the better) into the guild, and we expect that guildchat will reflect this diversity. Topics of a sexual nature are off-limits and need to be kept in private. Any chat directly meant to be hurtful or otherwise intended to cause pain and or strife to a member or to the guild as a whole will be dealt with harshly. We are all friends and we expect you to treat each other that way.

- If you wouldn't speak to your mother, sister, or grandmother that way; don't do it in guild chat.  We have children in our ranks and we need to be respectful of them.  Keep it clean.

- Respect boundaries. Some folks are comfortable talking about their "real" lives, and some are not. Know how to suss out and respect individual boundaries wherever they may lie.

- Remember you represent the <Council of Dragons> and therefore your conduct to others and to your guildmates should always be respectful.

Even if you are no longer GL Varissul I believe that these are perfectly acceptable guidelines to follow. As a mature guild we should be respectful of others and these are just simple guidelines to follow. Personally, I believe it is nice to have a place to fall back on to remind us that respect should not be forsaken.

(But thats just my 2 cents lol)

I couldn't agree more and that's why these are still here.  I personally am not offended by mild profanity or sexual innuendo but I would like us to be respectful of those that are.

Varissul's second post about respecting boundaries, avoiding rash statements, being respectful to guildmates and non-guildmates, and respecting all races, religions and sexual orientations (even elves I suppose) is SPOT ON.

I guess what I was trying to avoid was the newest members of your guild thinking I had any authority over what their conduct was in guild chat.

I really like Milric's Family Reunion post.  It makes a great deal of sense.
