The following set of guidelines (from Milric) lays out how CoD runs raids. Please note that raiders are expected use a threat meter add-on such as KTM or Omen in addition to the latest version of Ventrilo as mentioned below.
Individual Raids Overrule Everything
These guidelines represent... guidelines. An individual run can override these guidelines with specific rules for that run. If the raid leader chooses to override some guidelines, the overrides should be stated prior to the run so members may decide if they wish to attend.
Raid Schedules
CoD raids whenever there are sufficient members online that want to raid. We may attempt to schedule events via this forum. However, if online members express interest and can form an acceptably compositioned group, CoD may raid at that time.
Members interested in attending a forum scheduled raid should leave a message in the appropriate message thread.
Logistics
Scheduled raids will have a posted, target entry time. This is the time (in Server Time) that raids should enter the instance. In support of that, invites will start 30 minutes prior to the target entry time. Summons will start 15 minutes prior to the target entry time. Raiders that are not online at that time and have not given notice as to being a little late will be assumed 'unavailable' and will be replaced.
Scheduled raids will typically have a posted goal. This goal will indicate what events the raid will attempt. As combat is a fluid situation, these goals are subject to change.
Group Makeup
Raid group makeup is guided by a few principles.
1) The raid will be built such that it can likely achieve the stated goals. Note that this does not mean that it will be built to maximize the chance of success. Maximizing the chance of success would typically mean taking the strongest gear members each time and that is not CoD's intent.
2) CoD attempts to provide each of its raiding members with a weekly opportunity to join a raid. While this cannot always be accomplished, this principle of inclusion is second only to the principle of building a successful group.
3) On occasion, raid makeup may be guided so as to achieve some guild objective. That objective may be gearing up a particular player, correcting a perceived injustice of loot distribution, etc. (Example: Karazhan loot does not include any reasonable DPS Warrior armor beyond the T4 token drops. With our current make up, the only feasible path to epic loot for a DPS warrior would be badges of justice. Consequently, the guild might decide to give a DPS warrior priority in a raid so they could accelerate their collection of badges.)
Communication
Voice communication greatly simplifies raiding. CoD expects it raiders to have access to Ventrilo (available here). Raiders must have the ability to hear communication in the Ventrilo channel unless disability or system availability prevents such. Raiders should have the ability to send voice communication in the Ventrilo channel.
Procedures
The 'RESPECT MA AUTHORITEEE' rule
1) Raiders must follow the raid leader's instructions at all times, or they should excuse themselves from the raid.
The 'RESPECT YOUR GUILDMATES' rules
2) Raiders must show up on time, with their equipment fully repaired; all necessary consumables (ammunition, reagents, health potions, mana potions); and specialty items (specialty potions, specialty food).
3) The raid moves from boss to boss with a roughly 3 minute break after each boss. If a raider requires an extended break during a run then they need to notify the raid leader ahead of time so that a replacement can fill their spot.
4) CoD expects each raid member to respect fellow raiders during a raid. Mistakes will happen. While good natured ribbing is fine (even encouraged), rudeness will not be tolerated.
The 'USE THE BRAINS THAT GOD GAVE YOU' rules
5) If you can fill multiple roles (i.e., tanking or DPS) bring all the necessary equipment for both roles.
6) Train all available abilities within your class. (Odd as this may sound, I have seen this rule not followed. While in a different guild, a raid was held and a raider was requested to use a particular ability. They responded that they had never purchased the ability as they tended to solo a lot and the ability did not have much applicability to solo play.)
